Hello Summer! In my memory, summer means airy dresses and a cool breeze on my skin.🌞
Here’s how I learned how to feel the breath:
I remember this:
In the summer of 1984, I was in yoga teacher training when I first learned the deeper meaning of the breath. As a certified Sports Teacher, I knew everything about the anatomy and physiology of the breath. I don’t remember anybody using the word feel.
For the first time in my life, I gained a new perspective. The instruction: “feel the breath” was first an intellectual process for me. I didn’t feel anything; I saw facts. I counted the ribs and saw images of the lungs. I recalled how much Oxygen we inhale with each breath (BTW, it's 20 percent 😉)
And then it happened when I heard my teacher say:
“Touch your belly, rib cage, back, and feel the shirt on your skin… and now, can you feel your breath touch your shirt?”
My awareness lit up. I had never done that, and the experience was very powerful.
I was hooked.
And ever since, I have loved the feeling of light summer shirts on my skin and how my breath naturally expands into them.
EVEN THOUGH MY FIRST MEMORY OF FEELING THE BREATH DATES BACK TO 1984, I REMEMBER IT BECAUSE IT DEEPENED MY AWARENESS, AND I STARTED TO USE MY AWARENESS TO EXPAND INTO ALL PARTS OF MY LIFE.
