The healing power of the rose…
Hildegard of Bingen
My neighbor in Germany has a rose garden.
When I was here at the same time last year, I was looking for “scented” roses for the Tiny Island: Rose-Sage-Magic. Since roses that have been bred for durability and their looks, they have lost their scent. Your florist or nursery can point out scented roses.
Rose-Sage-Magic is a healing ritual by Hildegard of Bingen. It's a remedy for stress relief and your Tiny Island for the week.
I asked my neighbor if she had scented roses.
With a big smile, she pointed at a stunning beauty and said: “Yes, and her name is Hildegard.” Below the rose, I spotted a huge sage plant.
I shared the rose-sage ritual by Hildegard of Bingen with her, and we bonded!
The wisdom of Hildegard of Bingen deeply inspires me.
She is a 12th-century German visionary mystic and pioneer in holistic healing.
Called a Saint of our Times or the Green Prophet, her Hildegard Medicine is used worldwide.
She coined these words 1000 years ago:
“Even in a world that’s being shipwrecked, remain brave and strong.”
What a perfect lesson for us in our challenged world.
My neighbor showers me almost daily with an abundance of fresh rose petals and sprigs of sage. She puts them in paper airplanes by my door!
🌿🌹 Plants grow Friends!
Hildegard called the rose one of the most beautiful remedies from nature's garden, with healing powers for body and soul.
🌴 Tiny Island - Rose-Sage-Magic
Rose delights - Sage comforts - anger evaporates.
Use fresh or dried petals of scented roses and sage*
Close your eyes and relax.
Breathe in and let the scent create a memory of joy and contentment.
Breathe out and let go of anxiety, anger, or worry.
*Using essential oils works beautifully
Enjoy the practice in a short video here.
Two more tips on how to use rose-sage-magic:
- ✨ I have placed a small bowl with dried petals in my kitchen cabinet. Each time I open it, I’m reminded to pause and do the Tiny Island Ritual.
- ✨ You can create small sachets filled with dried petals and put them in your bag or suitcase. If disempowering situations get the hold of you, take a sniff and remember which feelings you’d give power to.
Hildegard shared in her books that roses do much more than enchant our gardens. They give us gifts.

This is the time of the year when roses are everywhere. Go ahead and let them create magic for you!
